Founder, Armed Forces Mentoring
Armed Forces Mentoring was founded by Jay Rainsford following 23 years of service across the Royal Navy and British Army.
Throughout his career, Jay has served in operational, training, recruiting and leadership roles across UK Defence. Beyond military service, he led National Citizen Service (NCS) programmes supporting thousands of young people each year, helping them develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
As a qualified Personal Trainer and Defence-qualified mentor, Jay created AFM to help applicants turn military recruitment delays into an advantage and arrive at Basic Training prepared, confident and ready to succeed.
"Few people have the opportunity to report to a Senior Manager who is also a friend, coach and mentor — but I did when I worked with Jay."
"Jay has a commanding presence that brings audiences with him as he brings training subjects to life."
"I found Jay incredibly supportive. He helped me maintain motivation, set goals and stay focused on achieving them."
"Jay genuinely cared about his colleagues and the young people we worked with."
